School Parliament
Welcome to our Primary School Parliament page!
Our School Parliament is an essential part of our school community, providing students with a voice and an opportunity to participate in the decision-making process. The parliament aims to foster leadership skills, promote school spirit, and encourage active citizenship and courageous advocacy among students.
What is the School Parliament?
The School Parliament is a group of elected student representatives who work together to represent the student body. They meet regularly to discuss issues, plan events, and provide feedback on school policies and initiatives.
- Representatives: Each class from Year 2 to Year 6 elects one representatives at the beginning of the school year. These students are responsible for bringing the ideas and concerns of their classmates to the council meetings.
Key Activities and Projects
The School Parliament engages in a variety of activities and projects throughout the year, including:
- Fundraising Events: Organising national events such as Comic Relief and local events such as bake sales for young carers.
- School Improvements: Proposing ideas for enhancing the school environment, such as playground upgrades, classroom resources, and sustainability initiatives.
- Student Wellbeing: Developing initiatives to improve student wellbeing, including anti-bullying campaigns, mental health awareness, and peer support programs.
Achievements
Our School Parliament has made significant contributions to our school community. Some of their recent achievements include:
- Reducing speed limit on West Hill Road:
Their biggest success so far has been in creating on online petition to reduce the speed limit on West Hill Road due to a near miss accident. They were successful is getting their voices heard and met with both Bournemouth Echo and BBC South in sharing their concerns. BCP Council have responded saying changes to the speed limits will be enforced by September 2025.
- Red Nose Day: Year 5 and 6 pupils delivered lessons across the school on why we fundraise for Red Nose Day. They also sold noses and held competitions on the greatest joke. The School Raised £926 for Comic Relief.
- Supporting Luna in fundraising for Little Princess Trust: Luna wanted to support the Princess Trust by donating her hair. The Parliament helped spread the word and fundraise the £700 that it cost the charity to make the wigs.
- Setting up half term rewards for the winning house: Each half term the Parliament decide on the reward for that half term and help in setting it up.
Meeting Schedule
The School Parliament meets every Monday in 3C/H. Meeting minutes are shared with all students and staff to keep the school community informed about the council's activities and decisions.
