About Year 1
Key Questions
Here are some answers to key questions you may have.
What does home learning look like?
Reading - One of the best things you can do is listen to your child read. Please hear them read their school book at least 5 times a week. This can be supplemented by reading lots of other story books, information books and magazines. Every time they read please record this in their reading diaries.
Please also read to your child as often as you can. This could be before bed or at a quiet time in a comfortable space where your child feels happy. Forming positive reading habits at a young age is one of the best ways to create life-long readers.

When will my child’s book be changed?
The books will be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. At this age it is important for the children to not just read the books but understand the vocabulary and what has happened.
Please ask them questions afterwards and challenge them to retell what they have read.
To supplement their reading the children have access to BugClub. Their login is stuck in their reading diaries. Please record all Bugclub reading in their reading diaries as these count towards their weekly reads.
