W/C 30 January 2023 - 'The Lord's Prayer'
This week in our worship, we looked at the Lord's prayer and how Jesus taught his disciples and us how to pray. We had a lot of fun with this and used props to help us understand and remember each line:
Our Father - we looked at a picture of my family with me in the centre as Dad to five boys. We said that Jesus teaches that prayer should be as simple and as easy as talking to a Dad or trusted family member.
hallowed be your name - we watched a clip of cheering and praise at a concert and talked about giving praise, cheers and applause to those with status and celebrity and to God
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven. - we looked at an atlas and talked about the world and the locality. There are great things about both and each has their own challenges. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the earth was more like heaven?
Give us today our daily bread. we held up a simple loaf of bread and talked about how we are encouraged to ask for just what we need and avoid greed or asking for all we want.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us. we held up some shower gel / soap and talked about how it can make us feel a bit yucky when we have hurt someone or if someone has hurt or upset us with their words or actions. We can clean all this up
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil. we held up a sword and a shield and talked about fighting against the thoughts that come into our head that suggest we do unkind things.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever.
Amen
