English | Reading |
This half term in reading sessions, we will be practising their ability to retrieve information from texts, use evidence to draw inferences about characters and use evidence to support their responses to questions. We will be looking at the following books: | |
Writing | |
In Summer 2, our first Talk for Writing text is ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. The children will continue to practice key grammatical features including capital letters, full stops and the conjunctions ‘but’, ‘so’ and ‘because. They will also be looking at commas in a list, the power of three and the impact of short sentences. The children will be writing in the past tense. Later in the term, the children will explore a creative writing topic and create their own narrative. They will then have a focus on non-fiction writing and will be ordering events in chronological order. |
Maths | This year we will be focusing on learning the 2, 5, and 10 times tables with the children. We will be learning and applying the rolling numbers which can be found on the website on the following link: |
Statistics
Measurement – Position and Direction Children will learn mathematical vocabulary to describe position, direction and movement including movement in a straight line and distinguishing between rotation as a turn and in terms of right angles for quarter, half and three-quarter turns (clockwise and anti-clockwise).
Children will order and arrange combinations of mathematical objects in patterns and sequences. |

RE | Our key question for the half term is: ‘What is the best way for a Jew to show commitment to God?’ During this topic, pupils will learn to understand how Jews show their commitment to God. Children will discuss some of the following:

PE | Indoor – Team Building In this unit pupils develop their teamwork skills. They develop key skills of communication and problem solving. They learn to discuss, plan and reflect on ideas and strategies. They lead a partner whilst considering safety. Pupils have the opportunity to show honesty and fair play. The also begin to use basic map skills.
Outdoor – Athletics In this unit pupils will develop skills required in athletic activities such as running at different speeds, jumping and throwing. In all athletic based activities, pupils will engage in performing skills and measuring performance, competing to improve on their own score and against others. They are given opportunities to work collaboratively as well as independently. They learn how to improve by identifying areas of strength as well as areas to develop. |
History | During this half term, the children will learn more about local history. We will think about the reasons people began to settle and visit Bournemouth and how our town came to be. By the end of this unit, children should be able to:

Design & Technology | This half term, children will be looking at the food and British Farming.

PSHE | During this topic, the children will discuss beach safety. The children will learn how to spot dangers at the beach. They will explore whom they might call if they need help. We will discuss how you call for help in an emergency and what an emergency is.

Music | This half term the children will be exploring the topic, Water, and the sounds that water makes in different forms. They will sing, dance and play instruments to compose their own water sounds in groups and as a class. |
Computing | This term, Year 2 will learn how to logon to the school network with laptops. They will practice using a keyboard through a typing game. They will then go on to develop their word processing skills. |
