We will be using two texts to drive our reading sessions next half term. These will be classic stories, which are longer texts than previous texts we have studied. We will continue to work on building language and as well as learning to recap and summaries.
We will be studying the classic ‘The jungle book ’. This story is about a boy called Mowgli and his life in the Jungle, his battle with Shere Khan, and fascinating details about learning to live with humans once more. The next book we will explore is another classic ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. This is about a boy called Charlie who against all odd wins a golden ticket to explore a chocolate factory belonging to the most extraordinary chocolate maker Mr Willy Wonka. This is going to be the first extended text. All children will have a copy of the book to follow and an opportunity to read aloud. Whole class texts are frequently used in KS2.
This half term, the children are going to apply all the grammatical knowledge they have learnt in Year Two to a range of different writing styles. We will write a recount in the form of a diary and more narrative using this year’s learning.
We will continue remind children about the importance in demarcating their sentences accurately with capital letters, full stops, and question marks. We review the determiners ‘an’ and ‘a’ and working out when these should be used. Finally, we will be focusing on accurately adding suffixes to our words. (-ness/-ment/-ful and more).
