English | Reading |
This half term in reading sessions, we will be practising their ability to retrieve information from texts, use evidence to draw inferences about characters and use evidence to support their responses to questions. We will be looking at the following books: | |
Writing | |
In Summer 2, our first Talk for Writing text is ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. The children will continue to practice key grammatical features including capital letters, full stops and the conjunctions ‘but’, ‘so’ and ‘because. They will also be looking at commas in a list, the power of three and the impact of short sentences. The children will be writing in the past tense. Later in the term, the children will explore a creative writing topic and create their own narrative. They will then have a focus on non-fiction writing and will be ordering events in chronological order. |
Maths | This year we will be focusing on learning the 2, 5, and 10 times tables with the children. We will be learning and applying the rolling numbers which can be found on the website on the following link: |

RE | Our key question for the half term is: ‘What is the best way for a Jew to show commitment to God?’ During this topic, pupils will learn to understand how Jews show their commitment to God. Children will discuss some of the following:

PE | Indoor – Net and Wall Pupils will develop the basic skills involved in net and wall games. They will develop their understanding of the principles of net and wall games such as using the ready position to defend their space and sending the ball away from an opponent to maximise their chances of scoring. They will learn to play games honestly, abiding by the rules and showing respect towards their opponents and teammates.
Outdoor – Invasion Games Pupils develop their understanding of invasion games and the principles of defending and attacking. They use and develop skills such as sending and receiving with both feet and hands, as well as dribbling with both feet and hands. They have the opportunity to play uneven and even sided games. They learn how to score points in these types of games and learn to play to the rules. |
History | During this half term, the children will learn more about local history. We will think about the reasons people began to settle and visit Bournemouth and how our town came to be. By the end of this unit, children should be able to:

Design & Technology | This half term, children will be looking at the food and British Farming.

PSHE | During this topic, the children will discuss beach safety. The children will learn how to spot dangers at the beach. They will explore whom they might call if they need help. We will discuss how you call for help in an emergency and what an emergency is.

Music | This half term we will be exploring the topic of Water. Through songs, the children will explore the texture and pitch of music. They will work individually and in groups and use a range of percussion instruments to recreate and perform simple rhythms of sea creatures. |
Computing | This term, Year 2 will learn how to logon to the school network with laptops. They will practice using a keyboard through a typing game. They will then go on to develop their word processing skills. |
