Summer 2
English | In English, we will be completing short writing projects covering a range of genres, purposes, audiences and formalities. We will be looking to showcase all of the skills that the children have learnt this year to make judgements on their end of KS2 writing band. We will also study ‘Holes’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’ this half term. We will find themes, compare characters and use the text to inspire debate in the class. |
Maths | This half-term, we will be considering the skills that children will need for secondary school. We will be reading a range of timetables and solving problems involving time. We will also be getting ready for our trip to Ferny Crofts, pre-teaching reading maps, compasses and taking bearings. |
Science | We will be studying evolution in biology this half term. By the end of the unit, children will be able to give examples of how plants and animals are suited to an environment. They will also be able to give examples of how an animal or plant has evolved over time, using evidence from fossils to support their thinking. |
RE | We will be studying Islam this term and our key question for the second part of our topic is, ‘Does belief in Akhirah (life after death) help Muslims lead good lives?’ The children will be learning to identify some of the ways in which Muslims try to lead good lives and how their belief in Akhirah influences this. |
PE | Indoor – Net and Wall Skills – Volleyball
Outdoor – Striking and fielding Skills – Cricket |
Geography | In geography, the children will be completing a comparative study of Brazil and the UK with a focus on population and settlement patterns. They will explore the human and physical features of Brazil, along with its climate and biomes, and compare this with the UK. We will explore the concept of urbanisation and the reasons behind shifts in population. Deforestation of the Amazon rainforest will be explored and the children will learn about the various reasons it takes place. |
MFL | The children will be learning about the modern Olympic games and be able to discuss them in French. We will be studying a successful French athlete and describing their life and sporting achievement. |
Design & Technology | The outcome for this unit of work will be making a t-shirt for a sports team. The children will be able to design a product based on a brief. They will use these skills during this unit:

PSHE | In PSHE, we will be thinking about strategies that the children can use to manage the transition to secondary school. We also be considering the increasing responsibilities and emotional effects of life changes. |
Music | Next half term, the children will be practising the songs we will be singing at the leavers’ service. We will be learning the words and thinking about the performance skills required. |
Computing | This term, Y6 will learn techniques in 3D modelling on-screen. They will then go on to use a BBC Microbit as a data logger. |
