What is expected?
- Reading to a parent/carer at least five times a week for a period of 10 – 15 minutes (this time scale includes time to talk about the book).
- Spellings to learn, which are set and tested on a weekly basis.
What is the homework this week?
In Year 1 the most important way you can support your child is by reading with them.

The children have recapped their phase 2 and 3 sounds. These are in their reading diaries so please practise these sounds. Challenge them to write words with them in.

The children have also been practising to read and write their phase 2 tricky St Michael's words. Click here for another copy of the sheet to support them.
We would like the children to practise the following words. Each day in phonics we test the children on a few from this list and the previous.
To support your child in their writing challenge them to write some simple sentences using their phase 2 + 3 sounds and their tricky words.
The car hit the curb.
The man had brown hair.
Support them in checking for:
- Capital letters
- Finger spaces
- Full stops
- Correct letter formation
In maths we are focusing on place value of number between 0-10.
Make maths fun at home by:
- Playing board games
- Playing dominoes
- Counting and jumping games
As stated in the newsletter, the new White Rose Maths - One Minute Maths app, is a useful tool for Key Stage 1 children. This app helps the children develop fluency and a solid sense of number. The Year Two children, have used it in school and enjoyed it. The app is free to download and does not require a login or internet connection to use it. It can be found on app stores across most devices (see links below).
