Teaching and Learning
“The greatest impact on learning is the daily lived experiences of students in classrooms, and that is determined much more by how teachers teach than by what they teach.”
Dylan Wiliam
At St Michael’s, we use cognitive science, evidence-led research and Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction as a guide for delivering effective teaching. We see our classrooms as sites of action research in which to develop and refine these approaches and ensure they are appropriate for our unique context.
We know that learning relies on high quality teaching and is underpinned by a well sequenced, challenging and knowledge rich curriculum. We see that learning is not a one-off event or a moment. Research informs our understanding of how to create this optimum learning environment for children.
