Maths | This term the children will build on their times tables knowledge from the Spring and Summer 1 term. We will continue to learn times tables until we have knowledge of all facts up to 12 x 12. The children can use the programme “TTRockstars” to practise. This month, the children will take part in the government times tables check. MyMaths will be set each week so the children can practise the maths skills learned in school. | |
Number - two step word problems | Shape | |
We will use our knowledge of the four operations (+ - x ÷) to solve two step word problems. | We will learn about three different types of triangle: right angled, scalene and isosceles. The children will learn the properties and names of different quadrilaterals including: rhombus, trapezium, parallelogram, square and rectangle. They will identify lines of symmetry and complete symmetric shapes. | |

RE | Buddhism Including learning that Buddhists follow the Noble Eight-Fold path to know what to do and what not to do. |
PE | Indoor – Cheerleading In this unit, pupils will continue to develop their body management skills. They will work in teams to develop their gymnastics, aerobics and dance skills. The unit will be split into lessons that focuse on different areas of cheerleading such as: stunting, dance routines, gymnastics and jumps. They will then use this new learning to work as a group to create their own cheer routine. Outdoor – Athletics In this unit, pupils will develop basic running, jumping and throwing techniques. They are set challenges for distance and time that involve using different styles and combinations of running, jumping and throwing. As in all athletic activities, pupils think about how to achieve their greatest possible speed, distance or accuracy and learn how to persevere to achieve their personal best. |
Geography | By the end of this unit, children will be able to: • Locate Poole and Sydney on a world map. • Describe Poole and Sydney in terms of their physical (harbours, coastal location) and human (ports, town/city) features. • Describe how both harbours formed over 10,000 years ago after sea levels rose during the last ice age. • Understand the ways in which humans use the two harbours (tourism, recreation, trade) • Understand that many species of animals (including birds, marine animals and insects) rely on harbours for habitats. • Identify some risks posed to these habitats (pollution, recreation and carelessness of humans, sea levels rising). Using fieldwork, record and analyse pollution levels on Bournemouth Beach, presenting their findings to their peers. |

PSHE | Coping With Change. It includes the changes to girls’ and boys’ bodies that occur during puberty. They will explore the emotional impact of puberty and work out their own strategies for managing well. We will give the children opportunities to ask questions about puberty and change. During the discussions, children will learn about periods and why they happen. |
Music | This half term the children will discover new ways to use their voices, through singing, beat box and rap. They will be news readers, poets and rap artists in our new topic, Communication. |
Computing | This term, Y4 will complete their Programming unit learning about code loops. They will then go on to use a BBC Microbit as a data logger.. |
