This half term in reading sessions, we will be practising their ability to retrieve information from texts, use evidence to draw inferences about characters and use evidence to support their responses to questions. We will be looking at the following books:
|In Summer 1, our first Talk for Writing text is ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. The children will continue to practice key grammatical features including capital letters, full stops and the conjunctions ‘but’, ‘so’ and ‘because. They will also be looking at adverbs, noun phrases and expanded noun phrases. The children will be writing in the past tense. Later in the term, they will have a focus on non-fiction writing and will be writing a letter.|

Indoor – Team Building
Pupils develop their communication and problem-solving skills. They work individually, in pairs and in small groups. Throughout, there is an emphasis on teamwork. They learn to discuss, plan and reflect on ideas and strategies. They lead a partner whilst considering safety. Pupils have the opportunity to show honesty and fair play.
Outdoor – Athletics
In this unit, pupils will develop skills required in athletic activities such as running at different speeds, jumping and throwing. In all athletic based activities, pupils will engage in performing skills and measuring performance, competing to improve on their own score and against others. They are given opportunities to work collaboratively as well as independently. They learn how to improve by identifying areas of strength as well as areas to develop.

|PSHE||During this topic, the children will discuss first aid. They will explore whom they might call if they need help. We will discuss how you call for help in an emergency and what an emergency is. Later in the half term, we will think about staying safe in the kitchen. The children will learn to identify dangers and how to deal with these safely. |
Later in the term, we will discuss ways to stay healthy, including safe and unsafe use of household products and medicines.
|Music||This half term the children will be using beats and patterns to create, play and perform a range of rhythms using instruments and body percussion in our Number topic.|
|Computing||In Online Safety lessons this term, Year 2 will discuss the difference between ‘online friends’ and ‘real life friends’ and then go on to learn about different devices that can have internet connectivity in the home. They will also learn techniques in digital photography.|
