English | Reading |
This half term in reading sessions, we will be practising their ability to retrieve information from texts, use evidence to draw inferences about characters and use evidence to support their responses to questions. We will be looking at the following books: | |
Writing | |
In Summer 1, our first Talk for Writing text is ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. The children will continue to practice key grammatical features including capital letters, full stops and the conjunctions ‘but’, ‘so’ and ‘because. They will also be looking at adverbs, noun phrases and expanded noun phrases. The children will be writing in the past tense. Later in the term, they will have a focus on non-fiction writing and will be writing a letter. |
Maths | This year we will be focusing on learning the 2, 5, and 10 times tables with the children. We will be learning and applying the rolling numbers which can be found on the website on the following link: https://www.stmichaelsprimary.bournemouth.sch.uk/learning-multiplication-tables-1/ |

Science | Our topic for this term will be Biology, learning about plants. By the end of the topic, children will have:

RE | Our key question for the half term is: ‘How special is the relationship Jews have with God’ During this topic, pupils will learn to understand the special relationship between Jews and God and the promises they make each other. Children will discuss some of the following:

PE | Indoor – Dance Pupils will continue to explore space and how their body can move to express and idea, mood, character or feeling. They expand their knowledge of travelling actions and use them in relation to a stimulus. They will build on their understanding of dynamics and expression. They will use counts of 8 consistently to keep in time with the music and a partner. Pupils will also explore pathways, levels, shapes, directions, speeds and timing. They will be given the opportunity to work independently and with others to perform and provide feedback beginning to use key terminology.
Outdoor – Net and Wall Games Net and wall games are games where either a net separates the players or a wall is used. The object of these games is to hit the ball over the net and into the court space or against a wall to make it difficult for a partner to return. Examples include tennis, badminton, volleyball, squash. In this unit, pupils develop their understanding of attacking and defending principles in net games such as using a ready position to defend their court and placement of a ball into space. They use and develop skills such as throwing, catching, tracking and hitting a ball. They learn how to score points in these types of games and how to play to the rules. They work independently, with a partner and in a small group and begin to self-manage their own games, showing respect and kindness towards their teammates and opponents. |

Art | This half term, children will be looking at the design technique called collage. By the end of this unit children should be able to:

PSHE | During this topic, the children will discuss first aid. They will explore whom they might call if they need help. We will discuss how you call for help in an emergency and what an emergency is. Later in the half term, we will think about staying safe in the kitchen. The children will learn to identify dangers and how to deal with these safely. Later in the term, we will discuss ways to stay healthy, including safe and unsafe use of household products and medicines. |
Music | This half term the children will be exploring steady beats and changing rhythmic patterns. They will create their own patterns using body percussion, their voices and a range of instruments. |
Computing | In Online Safety lessons this term, Y2 will learn about different devices that can have internet connectivity in the home. They will also learn how to logon to the school network with laptops. |
